Approximately 13 hours per weekend
Hei-Hey is looking for a cheerful, design-loving human to help us through the holiday whirl.
We’re a small, independent shop in Portland filled with colorful, clever, beautifully designed goods from Maine, Scandinavia, and other corners of the design world. During the holidays, things get a little busier. And by a little, we mean quite a lot.
That’s where you come in.
You’ll help customers find very good things for very hard-to-shop-for people, keep the shop looking sharp, ring up purchases, wrap gifts, restock shelves, and generally help keep the holiday ship sailing.
You’ll also answer questions like, “Do you think my sister would like this?” We have no idea who your sister is, but together, we’ll figure it out.
You Might Be Our Person If...
- You genuinely like people and enjoy helping them.
- You have an eye for design, color, pattern, and the little things.
- You’re friendly and conversational without hovering.
- You’re dependable and available to work weekends throughout the holiday season.
- You’re comfortable working in a small shop where everyone pitches in.
- You can stay calm when the shop gets busy and three people suddenly need gift wrapping.
- Retail experience is lovely, but enthusiasm, good judgment, and reliability count for a lot.
The Nuts + Bolts
This is a seasonal, part-time position from November 21 through December 27, working two 6.5-hour weekend shifts, approximately 13 hours per weekend.
You’ll be working directly with the owner, learning the stories behind the designers and products we carry, and helping make Hei-Hey feel welcoming, easy, and genuinely fun to visit.
Expect standing, unpacking boxes, restocking merchandise, light lifting, operating the register, wrapping gifts, and keeping things tidy when the tissue paper inevitably attempts a coup.
